Music, art & drama

Music, art and drama are incorporated into our curriculum from Grade R. Each learner from grade 1 to grade 7 takes part in a group music item and a group choral verse item in the Eisteddfod every year. Many learners choose to take part in individual items too. This is how Orban School has managed to win the award for the Best Overall Performance for an Institution in the Johannesburg region for 8 consecutive years from 2010 to 2017 (the region includes primary and high schools, as well as private institutions from Johannesburg North, South, Central and East). Our incredibly dynamic drama, art and music teachers make this happen in a way that ensures the learners enjoy performing and do so with confidence in front of an audience. Their unflagging energy and enthusiasm not only ensures that all our children take part in these activities during school, but also results in a full professional stage production (learnt from script) every year, involving every learner in the primary school. Examples include Peter Pan, Fame Jr, Alice in Wonderland, Mulan and more.

We host an annual art exhibition showcasing the best of Orban’s art, including at least one work by every learner and all the artworks that received awards at the Eisteddfod during the year.
